Labor/Management Relations - Procedures

 

  • Develop a grievance log with all relevant data.
  • Maintain a contract history book recording relevant contractual changes/issues.
  • Conduct a thorough investigation and documentation of all facts prior to recognizing an official grievance.
  • Develop process to distinguish legitimate grievances from a complaint for which the company is in no way responsible.
  • Require a written copy of any grievance on the standard grievance form indicating specific article of contract allegedly violated in support of grievance and remedy being sought as settlement.
  • Limit handling of grievances without HR representation to 1st step.

  • Require any and all agreements modifying existing language as result of grievance settlement documented and signed by company and union officials. Review with all members of management/employees and attach as addendum to contract.
  • Post timely and complete bids including clear requirements with appropriate notification to successful bidder.
  • Develop a comprehensive arbitration report format for completion and review prior to selection of Arbitrator.
  • Determine "chief spokesman" authority for negotiations
  • Conduct formal pre-negotiation review 6 months prior to expiration.
  • Develop company demands and negotiations strategy 3 months prior to expiration.
  • Prepare and submit bargaining authority 2 months prior to expiration.
